Supreme Judge Department

قاضي القضاةAs a manifestation of the objectives of the Royal Jordanian Hashemite Documentation Center and the Supreme Judge Department in facilitating documentation and scientific research, and in preserving Jordanian, Hashemite, Arab, and Islamic manuscripts and documents, while promoting Hashemite thought and reinforcing national belonging, an agreement was signed for the restoration and archiving of the documents of the Supreme Judge Department and its Sharia courts, including:

•    West Amman Court

The project included documents from the year 1922 to 1992, encompassing a total of 132,319 documents, covering the following subjects: marriage contracts, divorce contracts, inheritance inventories, reports and wills, and Sharia permits.

•    Salt Sharia Court

The restoration and archiving project for the Salt Sharia Court records included documents dating from 1880 to 1986, with a total of 20,944 documents. The archived records comprised topics such as marriage contracts, divorce contracts, inheritance inventories, powers of attorney, decision books, Sharia deeds, and legal claims.

•    Tafilah Sharia Court

The restoration and archiving project for the Tafilah Sharia Court records included documents from the year 1926 to 2002, with a total of 10,606 documents. The archived records covered topics including marriage contracts, divorce contracts, inheritance inventories, powers of attorney, decision books, Sharia deeds, and legal claims.

•    Microfilm
Additionally, the project involved converting microfilm tapes held by the Supreme Judge Department, consisting of 77,940 documents, from the year 940 AH to 1400 AH.

In total, 241,809 documents have been restored and archived for the Supreme Judge Department.
